Anyone born on this side of 1980 probably won’t get the reference in the title of this blog. But for those of you with a little more life experience, you may remember the South African song released in 1984 by Niki Daly questioning whether various genres or “isms” describing creative works were in fact art.

He lists artists from modernism to realism – always asking whether it’s just an ism or really art.

Well, here at Highlands Lodge, we can confidently tell you that tourism IS in fact an artform. Consider the qualities of good art and you will have to agree:

• Evokes an emotional response.
• Provides space for reflection.
• Draws you in.
• Combines colour, texture and pattern.
• Is immersive.
• Makes you want to engage again and again.
• Worth the money spent.
• More than just a product – an experience.
